About the thesis

This master’s thesis studies and critically edits part of ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn al-Samarqandī’s Sharḥ al-Taʾwīlāt, a commentary on Abū Manṣūr al-Māturīdī’s Taʾwīlāt al-Qurʾān. The edited section comprises the author’s introduction, Sūrat al-Fātiḥa, and Sūrat al-Baqara through verse 24. The study examines al-Samarqandī’s life and scholarly background, the work’s characteristics and method, and its manuscript witnesses. It presents an edited text based on manuscript comparison. The thesis was completed at Dicle University in 2021 under the supervision of Abdullah Temizkan.
